The Electric Mail Bike

EAMB-Cut-Out

In 2009 Electric Vehicles began working with the Australian Postal Corporation.

Our brief was a challenging one. To convert 500 existing standard bicycles to electric assisted bicycles. The task required many significant upgrades and modifications to the bikes to meet the tough environmental conditions that confront postal delivery workers in Australia. From the northern tropical beaches to the bustling southern cities and extreme heat of the outback, our mail delivery products are subjected to some of the harshest environmental conditions on earth. The bikes we modified proved economical and functional.

Custom Design, Manufacture, Field Test, World Class Product

Australia Post then contracted Electric Vehicles to produce a further 1000 customized electric mail bikes and 150 tricycles to expand their delivery options. The fleet is one of the largest of its kind in the world.

The new mail bike, the EMB, was built from the ground up with all the data and infield testing we had experienced.

The result is arguably the toughest electric bicycle ever produced

Lightweight Rack and Pannier Systems Design, Proto-Type, Test, Manufacture, Install

rack06

We recently fitted 6000 Australia Post Motorcycles with new lightweight rack and pannier systems. This project required the weight of the rear pack and pannier to be halved yet strength and functionality to be improved to make way for additional parcel volumes on the motorcycles.

By significantly reducing the weight of the frame and related components, freed up load capacity for Australia Post’ fleet of Honda Motor Cycles. The transition from mail to parcels is a key strategic target for Australia Post. We developed a rear rack and pannier system that can be fitted to 2 versions of the Honda motor cycles with the one rack specification.
